Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 16, 2026

Local-first by designCrackle PDF v1.0.4 processes selected files inside your browser. The extension does not upload your files or collect analytics.

1. Summary

Crackle PDF is a browser extension for local PDF and document processing. This policy describes the Chrome extension package currently shipped as Crackle PDF v1.0.4.

Crackle PDF processes selected files in your browser. The extension does not collect analytics, browsing activity, filenames, document contents, passwords, or personal identifiers. It does not sell data and does not use data for advertising, credit, or lending decisions.

2. Data Processed Locally

When you choose a file, Crackle PDF uses that file only to perform the action you requested, such as merging, splitting, compressing, converting, exporting, deleting pages, removing metadata, or protecting/unlocking a PDF.

Document processing runs inside the extension and browser runtime. Files are not uploaded to Crackle PDF servers. Generated downloads are created locally with browser object URLs.

3. Local Preferences

Crackle PDF uses chrome.storage.local to save extension preferences on your device, including:

  • selected language
  • light or dark theme
  • compression level
  • recent tool identifiers
  • local feature settings, such as CracklePress options

These preferences do not include document contents, filenames, passwords, browsing history, or personal contact details. They are not transmitted by the extension.

4. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Any information received from Chrome extension APIs is used only to provide or improve Crackle PDF's single purpose as an offline PDF and document toolkit. Crackle PDF does not transfer, sell, or use this information for personalized advertising, data brokerage, credit-worthiness, or lending purposes.

5. Permissions

The production Chrome extension manifest requests only the storage permission. Crackle PDF does not request host permissions, content scripts, downloads, tabs, activeTab, contextMenus, or scripting in the v1.0.4 package.

6. Network Access

The v1.0.4 extension package does not send document data to remote APIs and does not load remote JavaScript or remote stylesheets. The extension content security policy limits extension-page connections to the extension itself.

External links, such as the website, support email, Chrome Web Store review page, privacy policy, or Ko-fi page, open only after you click them.

7. Password-Protected PDFs

PDF passwords entered into Crackle PDF are used only in memory for the requested protect or unlock operation. Passwords are not stored, logged, tracked, or sent over the network by the extension.

8. Metadata Removal

The metadata tool is designed to inspect and remove hidden metadata from supported PDF, Office, and image files. Metadata is read and scrubbed locally. Crackle PDF does not collect or transmit metadata values.

9. Children

Crackle PDF is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children. The extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, the policy document and public Chrome Web Store privacy policy URL should be updated before submitting a new extension package.
